The Fall of Icarus
As punishment for helping Theseus escape the labyrinth after killing the Minatour, Minos, the king of Crete, sentences Daedelus and his son Icarus to the very same labyrinth where they are to remain for the rest of their lives
Proving impossible to escape, Icarus gives up while Daedelus comes up with a genius plan for them to leave their prison
Daedelus tells Icarus to gather as many feathers as he can find
Using all the feathers gathered, Daedelus managed to create two sets of wings for the pair to use to fly themselves out of the labyrinth
Before they attempted their daring escape, Daedelus gave Icarus the now infamous warning, don’t fly too close to the sun
With the instructions clear, both men commenced their journey, becoming the first mortals to take flight, something that had only been reserved for the gods of Olympus.
Filled with the ecstasy of flight, Icarus ignores his father’s advice
The wax holding the wings together melts away and the feathers begin to fall. Daedelus can only watch helplessly as his only son, after ignoring his advice, falls to his death.
